This is one of the nicest 1882 $20 Gold Certificates I have owned for quite some time. It is a Fr.-1178 1882 $20 Gold certificate with the Lyons and Roberts signature combination. It features a portrait of President James Garfield.

James Abram Garfield (November 19, 1831 – September 19, 1881) was the 20th President of the United States, serving from March 4, 1881, until his assassination later that year. Garfield had served nine terms in the House of Representatives, and had been elected to the Senate before his candidacy for the White House, though he declined the senator ship once he was president-elect. He is the only sitting House member to be elected president. President James Garfield was shot by Charles J Guiteau on July 2nd 1881 and died of his wounds on September 18th, 1881. Guiteau was executed on June 30th, 1882.

This Stunning 1882 gold certificate is very difficult to locate in any grade above 35 and then quite a few of those have many different issues. This example is totally problem free. In my opinion this should be an easy AU note. Notice the ruby red small scalloped seal on the obverse with the full golden yellow inks. In addition to the boardwalk margins, the reverse shows the vibrant burnt-orange gold color that these gold notes are known for.

This would make an excellent candidate for a nice high end example for the 1882 gold certificate.
