After dropping out of high school in 1969, I was taken out of the Ft Worth jail house by my mom and my Probation officer Chico and walked 4 blocks down to the Marine Corp recruitment office and was unceremoniously volunteered into the US Marine Corp at age 17. I proudly server 4 years in the Marine Corp from 1969-1973 with one tour in Vietnam in 1970. I was honorably discharged in 1973 at the age of 21 with the rank of Sargent (E-5). I served two years in the Marine Corp reserves until 1975. I love, respect and admire the U.S. Marine Corp!
Biography
Early Years
Like most people who collect US coins and currency, I started out collecting coins as a very young kid in the late 1950's and early 1960's as a young skinny kid in downtown Ft. Worth, Texas. I was raised at the fork of the Trinity river in the Major Ripley Arnold Government Housing Projects in downtown Ft. Worth. Right next to the jailhouse.
After school was out, my stepdad forced me to work the streets and sleazy beer bars Honkey Tonks as a "Shoeshine" boy, shining shoes for a quarter. I had a selected area downtown, mostly in skid row north of 7th street in Ft Worth that was my area which consisted of 16-20 bars, which covered about 13-15 blocks of north downtown. The famous Water Gardens now sits there.
The nice female bartenders felt sorry for me and helped me solicit business from all the local drunks. Occasionally I would get a kick in the chest if I got polish on their socks. On the side, I was selling Ft Worth Star Telegram newspapers which I could get 10-12 newspapers for a nickel in the paper slot machines, which I sold for a nickel each.
When business was slow, I would visit an old coin shop downtown on 7th street in the old Flat Iron building in Ft Worth, Texas. I spent a lot of time in this coin shop learning about coins from a very nice old patient gentleman. He taught me a lot about coins and which ones to look for. He would sell me Indian Head pennies for a nickel. He showed me a coin I wanted badly, but he wanted a whopping $69.00 for it. It was an uncirculated 1909-S VDB penny. I couldn't believe it, a year's worth of shining shoes for a single penny! For years I was looking at all my pocket change for that proverbial "Holy Grail" 1909-S VDB penny. I will admit, I never found one. But from that point on, I was hooked for life on collecting. Throughout my years, I've always enjoyed collecting things, rare, autographed photos, neon bar signs, coins, odd cigarette lighters, Lake Houses and now U.S. Currency. The first US currency note I ever bought was on eBay in 1999 and it was an 1869 $50 Rainbow note in a CGA VF-20 holder, and I paid $15,600 for it off eBay. I have bought and sold this note 3 different times. How times have changed since then.
I consider myself a very studious, knowledgeable and avid collector/investor of United States Currency. Some investors put their money in art, coins, real estate, gold and other valuable collectibles. I chose US currency because of the beauty and history behind every currency note that tells a unique and interesting story of our Nation’s past. I am a serious trivia history buff by nature.
Over the years I have acquired quite an extensive collection of over 2,500 selected small and large size US Currency notes. Some of them are quite unique and rare; and some are of the more common types as well. Most of my collection has come from some very helpful and knowledgeable currency dealers and collectors whom I have become very close friends with over the years. I attend and ""set-up"" at 15-20 of the major currency shows and auctions across the United States and have bought notes from and resold to just about every major currency collector known.
I am married to a wonderful and beautiful woman named Kimberly. We have been together since 2015 and share a blended family of grown adults. Kimberly is my lifetime partner — she works every show with me. We have four wonderful children: twins Nathan and Madelyn, and my main men Jonathan and Chris.

The Name
"Jhon E Cash" is a nickname I acquired about 45 years ago when I couldn't get a credit card and always carried cash to pay for everything I bought. And before you ask — no, I don't wear black all the time, and I can't sing a lick.
