1880-S $1 NGC MS66* STAR Monster Toned Morgan - Black Mamba
This magnificent beauty falls into the rare "black spectrum" of toned morgans and has the neon part of that spectrum boldy presented on the obverse of this near-pl Monster. There are several aptly named Monsters in the "Black spectrum" family. Most notably are the "Black Pearl" and the "Black Opal" from the Sonnier collection. As I was aquiring this gem from Ron Sirna, who had not yet named the beauty, a friend and fellow collector came along and I asked him what he thought would fit as a name for this monster. He mentioned the existence of the previous "black spectrum" aforementioned monsters and said "How about Black Mamba?" We all agreed that the name was perfect and it just stuck. Many people came by our table at the FUN show to get a first hand look at this coin. I am proud to offer it to you, our collectors for your enjoyment and consideration.
