1886 $1 NGC MS67 Rainbow Toned Morgan - Arctic Endroll

An arctic blast of icy blue flows over the visually perfect and lustrous surface. On the reverse, geometric patterns dominate in peach, icy blue, and lime. Normally, I would say to stay away from double sided toners. However, that applies only to Bag toned morgans since the side that toned was closest to the textile and the other side was unable to tone in the opposite direction. This example however, displays the quintessential Roll toning typically seen on Morgans. The reverse was facing the outside where the geometric folds from the paper being folded down to close the tube while the obverse was being toned by the paper in the roll itself. Normally, only a sliver of color can be seen on the side opposite an endroll. This example, however, must have been in the right conditions to grow that sliver into a bright icy blue band with typical pastel spectrum colors terminating the band into a small bright white area in the lower right obverse of the coin. For this coin to have been stored in a roll for countless decades, it is in amazing superb gem condition. This is a better date in MS67 than say..an 1881-S. The price is double for an 86 as it is for an 81-S.
