1921 $1 PCGS MS64 Peace Dollar Vam 1-H Satin Proof Dies
 | |
VAM-1H. Struck from satin proof dies. This scarce VAM variety is identified by specific wispy die polish lines above GOD and ONE. Additionally, the overall strike is much more defined than business strikes of other varieties of this date. It's prooflike appearance alone captures the viewer's eye from across a dark room. Both business strikes and satin proofs were coined from these dies. This is an extrordinarily special variety as it is as close as many can get to owning the ULTRA-RARE Peace dollar proofs which generally sell in the $30,000-$75,000 range. So, when you say my price is too high, just consider the fact that just a few handfulls of planchets prior to this coin being struck, the mint was producing this coin with the very same dies for proof distribution.
Additionally, regarding the price, I DID have to pay a strong premium for this coin and upon recollection of my thoughts when I bought it, I convinced myself with these points:
- Greysheet value for an MS65 is $2,240. To be honest, I would MUCH rather have a rare coin like this than a run of the mill MS65. Actually, I wouldn't buy a run of the mill MS65 but they still sell for around my asking price for this baby.
- The popularity factor of this series is rising every day. There are so few available proofs that having a coin like this presents virtually has no downside as the demand will likely exist for this variety for quite some time.
Oh, and the final reasons?
