1883-CC $20 PCGS MS61 Gold Liberty Double Eagle
| |
Lustrous well preserved 1883-CC $20 PCGS MS61 Gold Liberty Double Eagle is scarce. This mint-state double eagle was struck at the Carson City Mint when production was focused on silver dollars. As a result, mintages of the gold denominations were low, with 59,962 pieces of the $20 denomination struck. Of this mintage approximately 1,000 pieces are known today.
Many, if not most of the known pieces of this date show wear and extensive bag marks. The majority of the coins were sent out of Nevada to circulate among banks nationwide for at least a decade after their mintage. As a result, true uncirculated pieces are scarce.
This piece is a true Mint State coin, well struck with nice cartwheel luster. As can be expected for the grade, the surfaces show bag marks, from the transportation out of Carson City. However, they are not too prominent or distracting on the sun-yellow fields. A great coin for the collector of truly uncirculated gold!
Only 14 graded finer than our MS61 in a PCGS holder. PCGS price guide lists this coin at $9500.
