1869 5c NGC PF63 Longacre Pattern V Nickel - Judd 684
Aww, how cute. The three cent nickel design that was used on circulating coins from 1865 until 1889 is the basis for the design on this pattern nickel. If you held it side-by-side with a 3cn, this coin would look like it's big brother. Scarce and desirable 1869 5c NGC PF63 Longacre Pattern V Nickel: Judd 684, Rarity 5. The obverse design is similar to the adopted three cent nickel with the only change being a star added to Liberty's coronet. The reverse features a large Roman numeral `V' surrounded by a laurel wreath. A small Maltese cross centers the banded inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" at noon on reverse. Struck in nickel with a plain edge the devices are frosty and the fields are quite reflective. A beautiful piece and highly desirable in such a state of preservation. A fine addition to the collection of any pattern collector.
