1859 1c NGC PF66 CAMEO Stunning Proof Indian Cent
 | |
This is one amazingly beautiful and immaculately preserved 1859 Proof Indian cent. The fields flashy and deeply mirrored while the detail is frosty and sharp. This is virtually a flawless coin. The surfaces are free of any distractions and this coin is everything you would expect an 1859 Proof Indian cent assigned the lofty grade of PF66 Cameo.
The transitional Flying Eagle design was short-lived, and after just two years of circulation-strike service, the eagle gave way to Longacre's Liberty in a headdress. The 1859 pieces displayed a plain laurel wreath on the reverse but changed in 1860 to an oak wreath with a shield at the top, creating a one-year variety. This attractive proof comes from the lone Laurel Wreath specimen issue, which has an estimated mintage of only 800 pieces.
