German Love Token Engraved - Debreczen 1898 Marcz 16
German Love Token Engraved - "Debreczen 1898 Marcz 16"
This beautiful piece of history is engraved as to signify an event on the day of March 16, 1898 perhaps? Debreczen is one of the largest towns in Hungary. Maybe the coin happened to be in that town on this day.
The famous illustrater Aubrey Beardsley died of TB on this day (3/18/98). He was a controversial figure in his time thought of by religious folks as dark and perverse. Might this be a token of honor and memory to the man thought of as, with Oscar Wilde, the outstanding figure of the 1890s `decadence'? Ah, history at times is in the eye of the beholder, is it not?
