This is the ever popular 1862 $1 Legal Tender. One of our first notes ever issued during the Civil War. The bust is of Salmon P Chase who was the Secretary of the Treasure under Lincoln from 1861-1864, and Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court from 1864*1873. He is best known for causing the motto “In God We Trust”. He also graces the US 1928 and 1934 $10,000 bill. This is one of those notes you don’t find with the PPQ/EPQ very often. I really like it for that reason and the fact that it actually has margins. Most people do not know this but these notes were first ones that was HAND CUT! With that being said you will find a majority of the hand cut notes have no margins because of that or that the cut has gone into the design. Not the case with this one! This is another nice find. There are no rips, tears, pinholes or other issues. The serial number is 41738 and it is in a PMG-63EPQ holder.
