This is one of those types of rare notes that most people only dream about owning someday. This is the very rare 1928 $5,000 bill from the Atlanta District. The low two-digit serial number is F0000027A and is in a PMG Very Fine-20 holder. Of the 224 $5,000 bills known: only 32 are of the 1928 series. The 1928 $5,000 and $10,000 bills have the famous Gold Clause printed on the front of the bill in the upper left side. This in essence means that the bearer of these series of bills could actually go to the bank and exchange it for gold or gold coin at face value back in the day. The 1934 version or series had the gold clause removed and stipulated that the bearer of the note could use it for public and private debts only. There are only 32 1928 $5,000 bills known and 192 1934 $5,000 BILLS KNOWN. Of the 32 1928 series $5,000 bills are known most of them have repair issue or are in institutions. There were 18,244 $5,000 bills printed compared to $51,480 1934 $5,000 printed. So as you can see the survival rate was extremely low. This is a rare opportunity for someone to own a piece of Americana history. I also have another 1928 $5,000 bill for sale and the serial number is F00000198A.
