The newly discovered dual autographed and dated “Arnold Palmer” $5,000 Bill
I have acquired and placed with many collectors over 168 of the 1928 and 1934 $5,000 and $10,000 bills since 1999, including the famous “Dallas Hoard” which consisted of ten $10,000 bills and eight $5,000 bills. However, this particular 1934 St Louis $5,000 really excites and intrigues me as I have never owned anything quite like this one. The St Louis district only has fourteen known 1934 $5,000’s known, but in my opinion that is not the significant attribute of this rare $5,000 bill. It’s the famous pedigreed autographed signatures seen across the face and back of the note that makes it so interesting and highly desirable for not only currency collectors but sports collectors as well especially golf enthusiast. This is a PSA and DNA authenticated duel signed Arnold Palmer 1934 $5,000 bill. And to make it even more valuable it is also dated on the back May 31, 1983, 31 years ago!. Take a close look!
On the face off to the right side across the lime green treasury seal is the first signed autograph of the world renowned and Hall of Fame Gopher, “Arnold Palmer”. It is quite legible. On the reverse side in the center of the bill Arnold Palmer signed it once again and dated it May 31, 1983.
The only other $5,000 that is known to have been autographed by a well known personality was a Dallas $5,000 bill was signed by big screen actors Jimmy Stewart and Dough McClure from the 1965 western movie Shenandoah. There was a 1934 $10,000 that sold in 2012 that was signed by Johnny Chan, the World Champion Poker Player. It was pretty ragged and still sold for a nice price as well. But we’re talking Arnold Palmer here. One of the greatest golfers of all time!
This 1934 St Louis $5,000 bill alone, without any signature has a book value of well over $85,000. But to own one of the 186 known $5,000 bills is awesome but to own the only one to have been autographed by one of the greatest Hall of Fame Golfers of all time, is priceless. This has never been seen or offered before, until now.
I have been contacted by a well known sports memorabilia auction house and they inquired if I would consider cosigning it into one of their major auctions. It is an option, but I like taking it to shows for the people to see. It looks good in my showcase and it does gather a lot of attention. This is the first time I have offered it for sale.
I’ve included the Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA Certification Services stating that both signatures on the front and back are that of Arnold Palmer himself. Also Professional Currency Grading Service has already certified the authenticity of the $5,000 bill. This is a totally unique item and certainly one that will be even more valuable as time goes on.
Arnold Daniel Palmer (born September 10, 1929) is an American professional golfer, who is generally regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men's professional golf. He has won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour, dating back to 1955. Nicknamed "The King," he is one of golf's most popular stars and its most important trailblazer, because he was the first superstar of the sport's television age, which began in the 1950s. Palmer's social impact on behalf of golf was perhaps unrivaled among fellow professionals, Palmer's humble background and plain-spoken popularity helped change the perception of golf as an elite, upper-class pastime to a more democratic sport accessible to middle and working classes. Palmer is part of "The Big Three" in golf, along with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, who are widely credited with popularizing and commercializing the sport around the world.
Palmer won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998, and in 1974 was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It is played each March at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge, a private golf resort owned since 1974 by Arnold Palmer in Bay Hill, Florida, a suburb of Orlando. The event was founded in 1979 as a successor to the Florida Citrus Open Invitational, which was played at Rio Pinar Country Club east of Orlando. It has had a number of different names since then, most of them including "Bay Hill", but has played under the Palmer name since 2007. (Bio Printed from Wikipedia)
