PMG and PCGS are the only two TRUE independent currency-grading services available. I highly recommend these two companies for those of you who want to get their currency certified and graded for insurance purposes or simply, a peace of mind.

This is a great GEM-65 example of the ever popular 1928 $20 Gold Certificate. The serial number is A41422263A and it resides in a PCGS-65PPQ holder. You will notice on the large scans how well margined the front and back is. The golden burnt-orange colored seal and searial numbers are as bold as you can get and all four corners are pefertly squared. It does not get any better than this.

Most of the small size and large size gold certificates have been washed and pressed. This was a common practice from the 1920's to 1960's. The problem was the gold colors they used didn't hold up very well after washing as the silver certificates and legal tenders did. That is the main reason the BEP dropped the gold color and no longer uses it. Remember back in the old days, the government had hundreds of very large washing machines that stood over 10 feet high. They used them to wash and clean our currency to keep it in circulation longer. It saved a lot of money during the depression. I still have some of the old photographs of women wearing 1920's clothes standing by them.
