Do you realize how hard it is to find a real nice 1928 $50 Gold Certificate that has not been pressed or cleaned in any grade? It is almost impossible. Almost 75% of all of the 1928 $50 and $100 Gold Certificates have been doctored in some way. Look around and you will notice that most of the graded ones do not have the PMG EPQ or PCGS PPQ designator on them. That is because it was a common practice in the 1940's to the 1960's to clean and press them for collectors.

The last 1928 $50 Gold Cert in a PCGS-63PPQ Heritage sold was for $3525 on Sept of 2013. This particular 1928 $50 Gold Certificate is uncirculated and totally original with no doctoring at all. The bright burnt-orange color is a vivid as the day it was printed. You can easily see the embossing through the holder. There are no folds rips, tears, markings or pinholes. It has been graded as a PCGS-63PPQ. The technical grade on this note is a GEM PCGS-65EPQ. The front bottom margin is a tad smaller than the top margin which gives it a PCGS-63PPQ grade. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer note at this price. The serial number is A02488326AA.

Most collectors do not know this but the 1928 $50 Gold Certificate is twice as scarce as the 1928 $100 Gold Certificate, even more so in uncirculated condition. This could have easily been a $6500 note.

The last 1928 $50 Gold Certificate in a PCGS-63PPQ holder was in a Heritage auction on 9/25/2013 and it sold for $3525.
