This is the famous 1890 $1 Treasury note with the popular large brown spiked seal. The serial number is A1332444 and it resides in a PMG XF-40EPQ holder. It is very difficult to find these notes mid grade that are in EPQ/PPQ holders. Most of them have been pressed and cleaned. The face of the note shows the head of Edwin M Stanton who was the Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln from 1862-1865 and Andrew Johnson from 1865 to 1868.The back features one of the many intricate designs used at the time. All Treasury notes were the result of the Legal Tender Act of July 14th, 1890 and were back by silver bullion which was purchased by the Treasury Department.
