Dallas--- Well were headed out to the Milwaukee Coin and Currency show very early in the morning for a few days to look for new currency notes and coins. We will be returning Saturday night. It should be a good show as the currency market is starting to heat up again. Small size notes are gaining in popularity as more collectors find them more attractive because of their availability and reasonable cost. High end large size notes are holding strong, especially when it is of a rare FR number. We have sold quite a few of the large size stars on our website lately because of the price reductions. There are still a lot of them left for those who know when they see a great deal.
The 1929 FRBN star census is ready to go online today, but since we will be gone till this Saturday, we will go online starting Monday. The $500* and $1,000* is just about ready to go online sometime next week. The $5,000 and $10,000 census will follow shortly thereafter.
I own the largest collection of the $500* and $1,000* small size star notes ever assembled. So with that in mind, next week I will put on a very large sale of the $500 and $1,000 small star notes. If you have ever wanted to own one, check out this star sale next week. It will only last for a short time and it is first come, first served. Due to the low prices, I will only accept cash, checks or bank drafts. No credit cards or layaways during this sale. You will not believe what the prices will be. Quite a few of them will be liquidated below market and below my cost. Look for the blog on when it will start. I will give a few days notice. I gotta go now and get packed for tomorrow’s trip. Dallas---Update---I just received the two $10,000 Chicago notes back from PMG grading company. The one with serial number G00001081A is a Light Green Seal variety and is graded as a stunning PMG EF-45. It will be hard to find the three folds. The other $10,000 Chicago bill is serial number G00001087A and is also a Light Green Seal variety and is graded as PMG EF-40. It is really cool when you can fine a good Extra Fine note $10,000 with absolutely, no issues! Most of them are either in uncirculated condition and start at over $100,000, or in a VF condition or less with no eye appeal and with major issues such as repairs, rips, tears, pinholes or bank marks. You are lucky when you find a good EF or AU with no problems. There are not many to be had.
Well, here are two of them. They both were discovered in a south side Chicago coin shop, when an older gentleman comes in to sell his old cigar box of coins and old paper money he had in a safety deposit box for over 50 years. What a surprise when the coin shop owner opened the box. And see the two $10,000 bills. At first he thought they were old play money. He immediately called me and a deal was done. Everybody went home happy! How cool is that? I was lucky enough to get both of them and give my clients a chance to own one at a below market and extremely attractive price. If your not in the buying market, at least a chance to view them in detail and email them to your friends.
If you want to view them go to new purchases then click on newest listed to view them on the website.
If you have any questions call me at 214-769-9936 anytime.

Update--Glen Jorde from PMG called me on Friday to inform mw that the two 1934 $10,000 Chicago FRNs I sent him were finally graded. One of them was graded as a PMG EF-40 and the other one was graded as a PMG EF-45. Neither one has any rips, tears, pinholes or markings. I will be posting them on the site Tuesday or Wednesday when they arrive back. They will be priced to sell as I got a very good price on them. If you were ever in the market for one, now is the time.

I would like to apologize to all of you who have been waiting patiently for the census releases. The census itself is ready to go. Brandon and I are working on the program script that allows you to download or view the script from our site. We are debugging the software as you read this and it should be ready in the next couple of days. The 1929 FRBN stars will be the first one released, followed by the 1928 and 1934 $500 and $1,000 stars and finally the $5,000 and $10,000 FRNs. It will be worth the wait.
Thanks, Jhon E Cash

I just acquired two 1934 $10,000 bills form the Chicago district. They will be coming in tomorrow. They both are totally original and new to the census. I am sending them off to PMG to be graded. My guess one will be in a PMG VF-30 to 35 and the other one will be a PMG-XF of some sorts. They should get the PPQ designator, depending on how the graders feel that day. Neither one of them have any rips, tears or pinholes. They were found in a Midwest coin shop and have never been offered for sale anywhere. I will post scans of the notes sometime tomorrow. They will be offered for sale at a GREAT price. Star tuned.

Congratulations to lewminator who won the Fr.-237 star note for the contest I was running on the Collectors Universe Forum. His post of his 1935 $1 Silver certificate that was signed at the end of WWII was a great story.

MilwaukeeWe are heading off to Milwaukee tomorrow morning and I have my tracked lots at Heritage set and ready to go. Hopefully, I will snag some good deals as the bids now are quite low for internet bidding essentially closed (except for Legacy bidders). Many of my lots I am watching are sitting at roughly 30% less than what I could get them at to offer them for sale at a great price.
Milwaukee Hunts - I will be actively searching for Gem Red Indian cents with no spots and good luster, Colorful small denomination bust material (dimes and half dimes), an attractive twenty cent piece in high AU to MS62 of a type date, colorful Standing Liberty Quarters, attractive Gem Coronet Large Cents, and some attractive $20 Liberty Gold. Now, by attractive, I mean without spots, distractions, stains, ect., PQ for the grade, and outstanding color (peachy with blazing orange for gold, colorful toning on the silver, and Red-Brown/Brown designated with purdy color on the Coronet Large Cents). Also, as always, I will be keeping my eyes open for MONSTER toned Morgan dollars.

Grapevine, TXYesterday on 4-16, I visited the Texas Coin Show in Grapevine, TX. Since it is a local show, I stop by for a few hours just to see if I can find something neat and to say hi to friends. On friday about 3/4 of the tables had inventory with only a few still waiting to be filled by their dealers who had yet to arrive. Dick Osburn had the typical selection of seated and early material. Steve Sanders, as always, had the massive rarities at the show including an 1802 Draped Bust Dollar in NGC MS64 and it flashed like an 1881-S Morgan dollar. He also had a PR69CAM Morgan dollar and two Pan Pac Octagonal $50s. Mr. Hagler had some toned morgans that interested me. They were nothing outrageously special but still nice. There was one in particular that was monochromatically toned in a sweet lavender similar to the rim toning on Old Fattie Morgans except this was solid across the obverse. I figured it would be a good match for my monochromatic King Midas gold morgan but we could not come to a deal. Ironically, Mr. Hagler simply would not haggle.

MilwaukeeIn my last blog yesterday I mentioned I was going to Heritage to view lots
for the Milwaukee sale. I was excited to view the massive run of proof sets
from the Boca Collection. Well, when I finally got to them while viewing
lots I was a touch disappointed since there was not much in there for me to buy. I will not go into details so I will leave it at that. It is rare to see this many rare proof sets together so it was a pleasure being able to view them all in one place though.
This brings me to a good point regarding the current numismatic environment. The fact is, the entire problem is circular. Nobody wants to let go of their good coins because prices are low. Prices are low because there is a dry spell out there for spectacular coins. This is actually a great thing for owners of great coins who want top dollar for their special pieces. I have noticed a feeding frenzy out there for the few monsters out there creating the dichotomy we see in the current market. It is the water in the desert principal. When there is only one watering hole in the desert, every living creature in the area heads there for sustinance. More savvy collectors will realize this and start letting go of their hidden treasures knowing they will get premium money for it. This will expand throughout the hobby the numismatic recession will turn around. More and more nice coins will become available.
The
Fredrick Collection of Capped Bust Halves was an extremely educational and
fun set to look through and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them in-hand. The
large cents in the signature sale were in strong numbers with many
exceptional examples with great eye appeal and nice original surfaces. The
number of toned proof indian cents were dismal and there was a complete
absence of toned commemoratives with the exception of the monster PCGS MS68 Oregon that sold for $27,500 less than 6 months ago. Why on earth is it back in another sale so quickly? Holy Cow! There were many nicely toned Seated
Quarters both MS and PR along with some attractive proof seated halves. I
was however, disappointed once again when I viewed the US Patterns as there
was not much there to whet my whistle for Patterns. If you have any
questions about this sale, feel free to contact me at
brandon@jhonecash.com. Overall, this was a pretty loaded sale. I did not
have time to view the Platnum Night lots but I will be in Milwaukee anyways
and plan to sit down and view those lots there. Judging by their catalog
for PN, it will be a pretty exciting lot viewing. I will keep you updated
on what I see.

There are some pretty fantastic coins from the Sonnier Collection floating around out there. I was just offered some of them and have placed a few of them. Here is one spectacular example that has found a new home:

What do you think of the new PCGS secure plus service? I have yet to be offered any coins with the plus on them but I am eager to see how these coins sell at Milwaukee. I will even try a few coins for the service as well. I think it was a genius idea by PCGS to put seperate prices for the plussed coins. It gives folks a reason to submit for the service and the confidence of knowing how much their resubmission gamble will net them. Let us hope that they make it very hard to get a plus otherwise I am really going to get sick of explaining to people that though it may have a plus, that only means that it is now overgraded, or it may have the plus but is down-right-ugly. In my opinion, they should not + a coin if it is scary-ugly beyond all reason. It may have immaculate surfaces but geez, lord look at that toning on the obverse, it looks like Libertys nose just erupted with brown oozy toning. Yeah, nobody wants to see that with a + or a CAC sticker on it. If it has the + on it, you should be darn sure what you are getting is not going to be the inspiration for this years halloween party. Im curious to try and work with this new service. Ill let you know how I feel about it 6 months down the road. I will have a better grasp on my feelings for it by then.

Coin Photography Tip #1: If you do not have a copystand, GET ONE. A copystand can solve a myriad of problems when shooting coins ranging from blurry photos to color balance. Look for a sturdy copystand that has an 18% grey shooting base. It will help you when adjusting the color balance on your camera to get the proper colors to come through.

For the past few days I have been working on several things. First off, as many out there know, it is tax time and I have been busting my butt getting my taxes done. Also, we had a birthday party for my youngest son (7yrs old now). I also have the currency census still warm on my plate and I should be finishing up pretty soon. I will be at Heritage on Thursday to view lots for the Milwaukee auction. DID YOU SEE THE RUN OF PROOF SETS FROM 1856 to 1916? Holy Cow! I cannot wait to see them in person this week. Anyways, if you have some lots in mind that you would like me to give a look-over in-hand while I am there, feel free to email me at brandon@jhonecash.com.
