5/31/2010 - I hope everyone is having a Super Memorial Day Holiday. I know I have. I will be leaving on our annual 45-60 day RV Vacation around the USA with my family on or about June 8th. I will post a blog daily as I travel around to let everyone know where I’m at. I will also post photographs for all to see. You never know, I just might be in your neighborhood. Look for a 40 foot Motor home with the tags “LUV2RV”. It will be business as usual as I will still be in contact with everyone via email and phone on a daily basis. Brandon and Nancy will be handling all the shipping and receiving of all orders. If you have any questions you can still reach me at 214-769-9936 or email me at jhon@jhonecash.com. Thanks

5/19/2010 - Today and last night I listed almost 100 Large Size and Small Size FRN notes on the website, most of them were star notes. Go to on the left top of the Home Page then click on New Purchases and the at the top click on Recently Listed Notes to view them. The prices are incrediable. I also just reduced the prices on 25 1934 and 1934 $500 star notes. Get them while you can.

5/19/2010 - --Dallas---Well the summer is sitting in. The Memphis show is comming on June 17th. Im not sure if Im going to go as it is mostly a wholesale show. I never have had any luck getting new material at the Memphis show. However I really enjoy Beale Street in the evenings. The currency market has picked up a lot of steam over the last few shows. The TNA show held in Ft Worth in conjunction with Spinx Auctions was one of the better shows they have held in many years. There seemed to be a lot of business going on. I believe this was due in part because Spinx was holding an auction. I saw a lot of major currency dealers there that usually did not come to the TNA show. From all the rags that I have read and people that I have talk to the currency business is really starting to pick up again. Its not to the level that it was several years ago, but I think weve past the bottom. On the coin side, business has been much better than I expected. Ill have a better pulse on the market after the Memphis show. Stay tuned.

5/8/2010 - BIG Sale---Starting today 5/8/2010 I have put my Jhon E Cash Collection of 1934 and 1934A $500* star notes on sale for a limited time only. Due to the very low price I will only accept checks for these items only. Sorry no PayPal on the sale notes as the selling price is well below my cost on most of them. They are listed below market on almost any Greensheet or other currency report. They are being offered on a "First Come First Served" basis only. If you have ever wanted to own a 1934 or 1934A $500* Star note, now is the time. A lot of these star notes are very rare and in great condition. PLEASE VIEW THEM UNDER THE “SPECIAL” BUTTON FROM THE HOME PAGE IN THE UPPER TOP LEFT SIDE. This sale is for a very limited time only or until they are gone! Get them while they are available! Thanks, Jhon E Cash

5/3/2010 - Milwaukee---I just got back from the Milwaukee Currency show this past Sunday. It was a long and boring flight on one of AA’s American Eagle’s small plane. I hate those small planes. There are four small seats, two on each side of a skinny aisle and real close. I could barely get my carry on under my seat. Upon arrival the weather was real nice and spring like throughout the three day trip with a touch of light rain on Friday. The Downtown Hilton is only a 25 minute or a $35 cab ride from the Airport. It was an older Hilton Hotel but it did have a convenient enclosed overpass walkway to the Midwest Airlines Convention Center. This was a real nice and clean convention center. The Currency Convention wasn’t real large like a FUN show in Orlando but it was well attended. There weren’t too many Dealer vacancies like I’ve seen in the last few shows. Most everyone was there as far as major dealers go. I was surprised on how many coin dealers attended. Surprisingly a lot of the coins dealers were stocking up on currency to broaden their offerings. I liked the show. It was robust with a lot of people stopping at tables and doing brisk business. I don’t know if it was retail or wholesale business…but at least it was business. The Thursday and Friday that I attended the show, many dealers had mixed feelings on how the show preformed for them. I generally talk to 40 to 50 of the largest dealers to get a general pulse of the market. Most of them said they had a good show but their retail traffic wasn’t what they expected. Some of the dealers who said they show wasn’t that good for them simply lacked new or fresh material to offer or their prices weren’t in line with today’s market. Heritage had an auction on Thursday and Friday at the convention center. There was not a lot of good and fresh material available at a good price. I bid on a lot of lots that I really didn’t want. I was seeking PMG EPQ and PCGS PPQ material only. However I did sell my two $10,000 Chicago notes, real quick. Overall like I said I did like the show and as a general co census, it was well received. The prices of good quality Large size and Small size notes was up about 10% in price and quite brisk. Good material in GEM-65 or above with the PPQ and EPQ was hot! It seems that collectors want good material for their investments. Good Choice. I always recommend that you get the highest grade note that you can afford. You will thank me later when you or your heirs go to resale it later on. As always, the rare notes did well as they have for most of this prolonged recession. My next show is the Smythe and Spinx auction this coming May 14th and 15th in Ft Worth, Texas. I think this is going to be a big attraction and I hope it is. A friend of mine, Jim Fitzgerald formally of Heritage Auctions is heading the Spinx auction. Can you believe a Smythe and Spinx auction in Hertiages own back yard? Have they finally woken up the sleeping giant? Look for my real big sale on 1928 and 1934 rare $500* and $1,000* star notes. This will be a short sale as I am pricing some rare beauties at a real super price. I’ve had many of them for many, many years. Stay tuned, as there is more to come, Jhon E Cash

5/8/2010 - I will be attending the Ft Worth, Texas Smythe and Spinx auction this Friday and Saturday, May 14th and 15th, 2010. There will be quite a few coin and currency dealers and There will also be a nice Spoinx auction of cojns and currency notes, held in the evenings. If there is any one who want me to look for anything for them let me know as soon as possible. I will give a show report blog ecah day to keep you informed of the market. Also in case you did not notice I am having a large 1934 and 1934A $500* star note sale. look under the "Specials" link on the home page or read my blog on the home page. See ya later!

5/17/2010 - TNAThe Texas Numismatic Association recently had their 50th Anniversary show at the Amon Carter Convention Center at the Ft. Worth Stockyards. I was in attendance on Friday, May 14th. I arrived there around 11AM and the sky was dark but not yet rainy. The parking cost $5. (The first time they have ever charged for parking) On my way in I registered at the table outside the entrance doors. The admission to the show was another $5 but at least they gave you a shiny aluminum token to use for readmission to the bourse. The show was bigger than it had been previously with about 30% more dealer tables. While the show was bigger, it certainly was not a busling center of activity. Most of the newer dealers there were handling currency so for the sake of coins, it was just about like any other year. The majority of the material consisted of a vast sea of ungraded coins seperated neatly into 2x2 flips and holders and set upon tables in large albums for collectors to peruse. Needless to say, I did not have the time or patience to drum through an ocean of $5 coins. However, for the budding collector who enjoys the hunt to fill that hole in their circulated collections, there was plenty of fun to be had. Overall, it was an enjoyable 2 hours or so as I looped through the show about 4 times. I did not pick up much there but what I did find was about what I expected from the TNA. Good stuff, just not much of it.

5/11/2010 - TNAThe TNA (Texas Numismatic Association) show is this weekend at the Ft. Worth Stockyards. I plan on attending on Friday. If you are looking for particular material and would like me to track it down for you at the show, please contact me at 972-746-9193 or by email at brandon@jhonecash.com. This is the first show I can remember that had an auction tied in with it. Also, you can expect the FRBN Stars census to be available this week as the data is all ready to go and the online census script is 100% stable. All Jhon and I have left to do is give it a few test runs to make sure everything is in order. (I have triple checked it to make sure it is but Jhon needs to run through it a few times to double check my work.)

5/3/2010 - MilwaukeeThis show was set in downtown Milwaukee right along E. Wisconsin St. Numerous bars are peppered throughout this wonderful old-world street along with outstanding restaurants such as The Capital Grill and Milwaukee Chophouse. The Midwest Airlines Convention Center was the home of the coin show across the street from the Hilton (which is an ok hotel but had teeny tiny bathrooms and oddly structured rooms. This is probably due to the fact that the building is very old and the lobby reveals clues as to the fact it was once a large bank with the two-tiered lobby level.

We arrived on Thursday and had to pay for an early bird tag ($75x2) to get in to do business which was sort of a drag and certainly kept the floor dry of any substantial retail business. This was a poor idea for the show coordinators as all the dealers who count on retail business only really had Friday and Saturday but had to be there earlier for the Heritage auctions thereby wasting a day of business with all the expenses still applying. The show coordinators certainly could have allowed the public in at 2PM without issue.

There were the typical friendly vest pocket dealers floating around with boxes of coins to look through that had some nice coins but lacking in truly eye appealing specimens. As I wandered the floor, this seemed to be the case throughout the show but certainly not a surprise as this has been the case for the last several shows. After hunting for several hours with coins for my clients in mind, I managed to locate some hidden treasures which I promptly put away for my clients. It seemed that the only nicely toned morgans on the floor either belonged to Ron Sirna, Dennis King, or Larry Shapiro. At the prices they were asking though, I could not bring myself to buy anything with the expectation of turning a profit so no toned morgans came back with me.

Toned Commemoratives were equally elusive. I could count on my left hand how many attractive early commemoratives were available at the show. Greg Bingham had his beauties displayed at Albanese Rare Coins but unless I had a client that REALLY needed them and was not afraid to pay for it (I currently do not), there was nothing there for me. I located a few others that were about double what I would pay for them without expecting much profit so I passed over them. One of them was a very attractive Grant Commem in PCGS MS64 ringed with obverse color but I could not stomach the price to buy it for inventory.

I managed to find a few good deals that I quickly snatched up and away but as usual, my clients left me with only two left to put on the website. If you want first shot on the goodies I find at shows, it might be a good idea to add them to your want list with us as I made several clients who decided to use it VERY happy at the show. The retail side of the show was considerably poor from what I gathered asking around some of the primarily retail guys. The wholesale was on the dry side because of the lack of quality material required by some of the larger dealers. As always, I visited my buddies at Mad Coins (Mike and Dawn) who has absolutely the best wholesale coins available at shows. I have done business with them for years and have yet to lose money on a coin purchased from them. That is a record that none of my other wholesale guys can boast. Overall, it was a good show but certainly not what it used to be 3 years ago. Prices are holding steady and all the market needs is an influx of quality material to get the steam pumping again.

I decided to test the waters of the Secure Plus program at PCGS. I sent in 7 coins and we will see how they do. There were only about 2 dozen + coins on the floor at the show so it is too soon to see how they will affect the market. The dealers I spoke to really did not boast a huge increase in price for a plussed coin but enjoyed showing them off nonetheless. I am glad to say that from what I saw with +s, PCGS is SUPER STRICT. I did not see every + coin but from the sampling I viewed, it is not going to be easy to get a + on coins even if they are superb for the grade. Now, having said that, I hope I get all 7 coins coming back to me with +s.

5/15/2010 - I went to the TNA show yesterday for a few hours. The weather was stormy and it took me over 2 hours to drive home from Ft. Worth back to Rockwall, TX. This was the biggest TNA show I have seen since I started dealing in coins. This was definitely because of the Smythe/Spinx auction, of which most of the lots were currency which would explain why so many currency dealers were in attendance. That most likely accounted for the larger bourse than before. I will go into more detail in my show report. Happy Saturday!

5/4/2010 - I have updated the news/show reports and blogs. Now, when you click on (Read More) you no longer have to find the blog/report you were hoping to read. Now, the link takes you right to the blog/report on the webpage. No more hunting it down. For you future web developers out there, learn to use your anchor tags.
